Throughout
the
2022-2023
school
year,
MyCom
invested
funds
and
human
resource
capital
into
several
community
program
partners
with
a
focus
on
developing
our
young
adults.
One
of
our
program
partners
is
Young
Men
Growing.
Young
Men
Growing
or
YMG,
is
a
non-profit
focused on
the
enrichment
and
support
of
young
black
males
ages
11-18.
YMG
provides
time
and
space
for
guided
conversation
centering
on
relevant
topics
such
as
Social
Emotional
Learning,
Leadership
Development,
Financial
Literacy
and
Community
engagement.
YMG
partners
with
Third
Federal
to
present
important
concepts
of
Financial
Literacy
through
guided
activities,
as
well
as
our
own
Financial
Literacy
Program
that
has
been
recently
developed
specifically
with
our
young
men
in
mind.
Over
the
2022-2023
school
year,
the
young
men
participated
in 40
virtual
Zoom
sessions,
2
In-person
sessions,
and
six
in-person
field
trips.
The
field
trips
included
Edwin's
Restaurant,
where
the
young
men
had
the
opportunity
to
cook
with
the
chief
in
the
galley
kitchen;
after
they
had
the
opportunity
to
prepare
and
cook
the food,
the
young
men
were
able
to
sit
down
in
the
restaurant
and
eat
what
they
cooked.
Another
field
trip
for
the
young
men
was
learning
the
fundamentals
of
golf
through
the
non-profit
organization
First-Tee
of
Cleveland.
This
was
the
first
time
a
large
percentage
of
the
young
men
had
the
chance
to
stand
on
a
golf
course.
YMG
attended
two
Cavs
Games
and
one
Cleveland
Charge
Game.
They
also
participated
in
the
NEO
Stem
event
at
the
Rocket
mortgage
arena.
They
attended
the
Black
and
Beyond
Male
Summit
at
Akron
University,
where
the
young
men
could
hear
and
meet
the
newly
appointed
Cleveland
Mayor,
the
Honorable
Justin
Bibb.
YMG
conducted
a
Financial
Enrichment
Field
Trip.
The
field
trip
included
visits
to
the
federal
reserve
bank
in
downtown
Cleveland
and
an
Erie
Banks
branch
in
Seven
Hills,
Ohio,
where
the
young
men
had
the
opportunity
to
meet
the
Regional
Vice
President,
Community
Relationship
Manager,
and
branch
manager.
These
three
men
ate
lunch
with
the
young
men
and
discussed
the
difference
between
being
wealthy
and
being
rich.
YMG
started
in
2017,
and
a
good
number
of
the
young
men
who
began
with
them
in
2017
were
graduating
from
high
school
in
2023.
To
demonstrate
their
belief
in
them,
YMG
paid
for
all
their
prom
expenses
and
gave
each
young
man
$1,000.00
check
towards
their
college
expenses.
MyCom
congratulates
the
young
men
and
celebrates
our
partnership
with
Young
Men
Growing!
Learning More About Young Men Growing
MyCom will enact our mission with race and equality at the forefront of our work as we always have. We will use our thought-leadership, funding, advocacy, and network to redesign service delivery. Together we will rethink infrastructure and create solutions that eliminate access to healthcare, cyclical poverty, access to quality education, housing stability, and other barriers that have impacted black lives.
