MyCom Monday Hi-Five Dr. Luciana Gilmore

September 25, 2023

“Whether I am developing a new program, sitting on a committee for education, or actively involved in leading education initiatives, to know that my work and my voice in the room is effectively creating a change trajectory for the students of Cleveland and more so the larger scope and imprint of education lets me know I am doing the correct work!”

Dr. Gilmore is an author, motivational speaker, and CEO of Novaturient Industries, a consultant group specializing in organizational leadership and educational development.

“Being named amongst Who’s Who In Black Cleveland, is a huge accomplishment,” Gilmore said. “Being an entrepreneur with a focus on education, my goal is to get this thing called “opportunity” right for young people.”

Drawing inspiration from a historical personal heroine, Gilmore ties past social warriors to current endeavors.

“My biggest inspiration in pursuing community leadership, and this may sound like a stretch, is Harriet Tubman. She clearly understood that being enslaved was not the end of her story. She decided to make a change, and then went back to help others make a change. She was a true foot soldier for change, while being fearless of her leadership position. When I think about my passion for education, my determination to want to see children who look like me become successful despite barriers and challenges, and my perseverance in ensuring that I continue to contribute directly and indirectly, I am inspired by those who have done it before me. I believe Black female leaders are the true cornerstone of change and exponential impact! Understanding that inspires me to pursue diligently and activate daily.”

Gilmore is motivated by being named to the 2023 list.

“I am steadfast in working hand and hand with organizations who support students academically, emotionally, and socially, some including MyCom, The Cleveland Foundation, and Ohio AfterSchool Network. This honor continues to light the fire of the work I am so passionate about. Working sometimes in a silo as a consultant, you need that reminder that what you are doing matters, and this definitely provided me some extrinsic motivation!”

She intends for the Who’s Who In Black Cleveland list, and the recent completion of her doctorate degree will fuel her future endeavors.

“Since wrapping up my research and doctorate degree I am working on starting an all-girl high school for minority girls, with an emphasis to a dedicated and inclusive curriculum, an emotional support structure committed to the distinct needs of the girls served, and an intentional goal of ensuring social mobility for the girls of attendance! So be on the lookout for F.O.R.W.A.R.D. Academy!”
