Position Description

As a MyCom community, a staple identifier is the Neighborhood Youth Council. The Youth Council is the driving youth voice for change within that MyCom Community. Young people from all walks of life are encouraged to participate in the MyCom Youth Council.

The Purpose of the MyCom Youth Council is as follows:

  • To provide meaningful input into the decision-making processes;
  • To serve in an advisory capacity for the neighborhood Steering &Mobilization Teams in the development of goals and objectives, and to assist in organizing the growth of positive youth programs and activities in the neighborhood; and,
  • To gain valuable leadership and community service experiences.

An active MyCom Youth Advisory Council ensures that services, programs, and supports in a community meet young people's needs and desires.

An effective MyCom Youth Advisory Council defines projects that help achieve systems change that benefit the youth and the community.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we lost many active youth councils throughout the MyCom Network due to the inability to interact face to face; because of this, MyCom has an opportunity for a Youth Council Consultant. In addition, a manual and overview of the MyCom Youth Council will be provided.

The Key Deliverables for the MyCom Youth Council Consultant are as follows:

  • 8 – 10 Established Youth Councils in the Neighborhoods identified;
  • Conduct the first meeting with the Established Youth Council;
  • Solidified Lead partner/agency for the Youth Council meetings; and,
  • A solidified calendar with dates and times for all future meetings.

This project has a dense timeline of 90 – 120 days upon acceptance of the contract.
The contract pays $20,000 - $25,000.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit 20–25 youth in 8–10 MyCom communities;
  • Establish a Youth Council in areas where none exist;
  • Work with the MyCom Regional Coordinator to identify a lead/facilitator to conduct regular MyCom Neighborhood Meetings;
  • Work with MyCom Network local agencies, schools, and other relevant stakeholders to develop an integrated advocacy and programming model to ensure that the services provided to students and families are effective;
    • Work to educate the host on the challenges presented by COVID 19:
      • Masks, Sanitizing stations;
      • Virtual alternatives if needed/requested; and,
      • Program capacity to allow for social distancing.
  • Establish ongoing communication with partners;
    • Communication includes phone calls, site visits to partners, and hosting introductory sessions to engage new partners, as needed.
  • Implement continuous quality improvement processes and strategies, using existing data and work with partners to collect new data about youth programming in the region;
  • Work with contracted Lead Agencies to ensure full implementation of all facets of MyCom strategy;
  • Act as the representative of MyCom to and for partners;
  • Document the commitment and participation of partners to ensure compliance with MyCom community partner requirements; this includes reviewing all sign-in sheets, agendas, and other appropriate documentation from service providers; and,
  • Be available to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

This position will serve as the significant connector for youth in the community- as well as network resources support, and must be proficient and astute in the following:

  • Relationship management;
  • Youth Engagement and Development;
  • Youth Council functions;
  • Project management;
  • Meeting management and facilitation;
  • Training and team leadership;
  • Able to identify, track, and leverage existing Youth Councils; and,
  • Cultural humility and principles of equity and inclusion.
